  • I am 29 and have been working out since I was in high school. Honestly, I cannot say that I really noticed results until I started working out with Steve last March at Fitness-4-U. By working with a personal trainer, I was able to get individualized attention to learn what I needed to change about my workouts in order to get results I was not getting on my own. My main goal was to achieve better muscle tone. It worked! What I did not expect to happen was that I was able to eat more, drop two sizes and I have never been in such good shape as I am now. I went from barely being able to run a mile in fifteen minutes to running three miles in less than thirty minutes. Steve taught me correct form, which exercises I should be doing and a better way to eat.

One of the most pleasant surprises was that even though the scale did not move much (because muscle weighs more than fat), by measuring my body fat I could see results quickly. It is hard for women to forget about the scale, but it's easy to notice your jeans getting baggy. I went from a size ten to a size six in about four months, and honestly, I did not change my eating habits much. (Sorry, Steve!)

Although I do not work out with Steve anymore, I continue to utilize what I learned from him. Steve knows I do not like overcrowded gyms, and so he was able to teach me to maintain my workout at home on my own time.

One of my favorite things about Fitness-4-U is that it is a fun place to go. I looked forward to my time there. It was never crowded or intimidating. The people that work there are wonderful and professional. They make their clients feel comfortable, no matter what their fitness level. The most common question I get from people who know I hired a personal trainer is, "Wasn't that expensive?" My answer is always, "It was the best money I've ever spent on myself and worth every penny." When you look better, you feel better and that feeling is priceless.

  • I would like to share what i feel has been a miracle for me through the use of reflexology. My daughter had suffered severe neck pain and headaches due to an accident and had gone to Brian Louallen for reflexology. She had been to chiropractors and undergone massage treatments, but to no avail. Reflexology got rid of the pain and headaches completely. She kept suggesting I call Brian to try to help with the problems I live with daily. (Fibromyalgia/Chronic Fatigue - high blood pressure - degenerative arthritis -- and a number of other things that accompany the aging process)

I felt squeamish about this type of treatment as I didn't know much about it. And, my husband was very skeptical!!! So, I went online and researched it, and finally in May of last year, 2005, I called Brian. He made an appointment for me and was even willing to come to my house, which was a tremendous help to me.

After my first treatment, I slept for 7 hours straight the first night. I had not had that kind of quality of sleep for years. As we continued the treatments, my blood pressure went down to an acceptable range. I had much more energy on most days, and was in a much better frame of mind all the time. I was beginning to feel more like my old self, which I had been praying for.

Many people noticed the difference in me and asked what I was doing that caused such a difference. And now my husband (the skeptic!) says, "I think maybe you should call Brian and see if he can help this or that problem" when something new shows up.

When i went to my family doctor for a check up, he was amazed! He told me to keep up the good work, and even gave me a prescription to give Brian saying he suggested I have reflexology treatments. This was a huge leap, as this doctor had tried to help with every medication he could think of. And, nothing I was given would bring down the B.P. or help the pain and fatigue I lived with every day. He was so pleased with the amount of new energy I had and the sparkle in my eyes -- he said he would recommend it to other of his patients.

I certainly have recommended it to others -- knowing and telling them that it might not work for everyone the way it does for me. (as Brian is very quick to tell people) And, I will keep on recommending it to others. I am a firm believer in reflexology.

My daughter who recommended Brian is also a firm believer. She lives to far from Brian now, and feels she can't drive that far to have him do her treatments. But....her neck problems are back to the point that she sits and cries. She has tried another reflexologist who is closer to her, but gave it up as this lady wasn't doing the same as Brian, nor was my daughter having the same response. She is still in pain, and saying she thinks she will try to work out a way to be able to see Brian. And, I am encouraging her to do so as she did me.

To sum it all up -- I would have to say that reflexology and Brian Louallen has given me my life back -- as much as Fibro/Chronic Fatigue will allow, anyway. At least I am able to go and do things I wasn't able to do this time last year. I still have my limitations, but I know them and how to deal with them.

Reflexology and Brian have been a God-send for me!!!

I haven't gone to the police about this yet, but there's a man who's trying to kill me.

Like many killers, he always seems to be enjoying himself. Remember John Wayne Gacy? Sure, he was a murderer, but he was also a part-time clown. And what's funnier than a clown, huh?

And so it is with my torturer, Tom. Whether I'm lying in a crumpled heap or just walking around begging for mercy, he looks just pleased as punch.

He calls himself a "personal trainer." I suppose the workout facility and the certificates on the wall and the roster of clients might back up his claim, but I say the jury is still out.

Nonetheless, with my 40th birthday creeping up and my "baby weight" still attached to my middle on the eve of my kid's 10th year, it was time to do something.

In the past I've joined gyms or embarked on exercise programs on my own, only to peter out after a month or so. It's the same old story: Decide to get in shape; shoot out of the starting gate with enthusiasm; try to change every bad health habit in a few weeks' time; and, after a month or so, get bored or discouraged and quit.

I'd always have good intentions of exercising on the appointed days, but then I'd be too tired, or gee, I had to work late, or I had a blister on my pinkie, or I just had to wash my hair. Anything to avoid it.

But now, there's Tom. If I come up with some lame excuse why I can't exercise, I have to call and tell him. Then I have to face him the next time I go in.

And so, I go. Grudgingly, much of the time, but still I go. Even if my favorite TV show is on. Or I'm cozy in bed and would rather have to watch "The View" than get out of it. Or I just ate Mexican or Indian food and don't think it's a good idea to be gallivanting around.

Apparently the value in going to a trainer isn't just that you will actually take your butt there instead of making excuses. The value also comes from the fact that they work you way harder than you work yourself. Make that way, way harder.

Left on my own, I'd push until I was a little sweaty and my muscles felt a little burn. With Tom, that's just a good warmup. More than merely feeling a "little burn," my muscles seem engulfed in flames like a stuntman on the set of "The Towering Inferno."

I've noticed something about trainers, not just Tom, but others on his staff. They're awfully flippin' excited to see you push yourself. When the going gets tough, the trainers get rowdy. While the clients are huffing "Arghh!" or "Oomph" or "OHMIGOD!" during a rough set, the trainers are inevitably hooting "Woo! Woo!" and cranking the music.

To which I can usually only respond, "Oof-dah!" They might take this to mean simply, "You are killing me," but what I'm really saying is, "You !^%@$!*! I hope you *&*&!@^ and ?"!@#$ and then %%&!%@$ yourself!!"

But here's the funny thing: I actually kind of like this training. Tom makes me push myself to do more than I thought I was capable of. There are times when I just can't do one more rep or walk for one more minute, and yet I do. I might not look forward to going, but I always feel great when I leave.

Even after the workouts where he attaches my legs to pulleys on the wall and then makes me walk on the treadmill, every step like trudging through oatmeal. Even when he sashes me to a band and makes me do endless donkey kicks until I feel like I should be pulling a carriage full of Amish people.

And there's one more thing I like about training with Tom: He works part time as a fireman, so if my thighs finally catch fire because of too much friction, I'm safe.
